One Lucky Chukar Bird.

Washington State’s Cherry & Berry Company ‘Chukar Cherries’, were handed a real live Chukar bird earlier this year.

A young lad and his dad arrived at the Chukar Cherries store and asked the company if they could adopt the bird.

Pam Montgomery, the founder, was quoted as saying “We’re pleased to have a real Chukar bird as a mascot after so long in the business.”

About The Cherry And Berry Company And The Chukar Bird

The cherry and berry company was started in 1988.

The founder picked the Chukar Bird To symbolise the company.

The Chukar Partridge, originally from Asia, eats Northwest sweet cherries.

The Chukar game bird prefers the craggy slopes and arid climates you’ll find in the Northwest.

It’s the ideal symbol for Chukar Cherries with it’s noticeable cherry red beak and legs.

They also have very unique and gorgeous vertical bar markings.

The chukar partridge is an aerial stuntmaster and racehorse in the flatlands.

Chukar Cherries is an ideal habitat for Chukars.

With their headquartered situated in the arid Columbia Valley, surrounded by vineyards and cherry orchards.

They’ve aptly named the mascot “Cheri” .

There’s is a custom built aviary out front of Chukar headquarters in Prosser , built by Dave Bender who is a longtime associate.

Cheri’s current duty is to welcome visitors.

Siam Park is Set to Boost Tourism In Tenerife.

The newest attraction is on Tenerife’s South side.

Just outside ‘Playa de las Americas’, the development will wow visitors of all ages.

Northwest Aviaries – Reflecting the magic of the Kingdom of Siam.

Ornate architecture from the Far East.

An abundance of exotic flora.

Siam Park is to showcase some spectacular ‘Animal Kingdom’ wonders.

Aviaries.

Big Game Cats.

Aquariums.

Sea lions.

Crocodiles.

As well as a large number of exotic fauna who are to be homed somewhere in the park’s 180,000 square metres.

This is all very similar to its sister park – Loro Parque – located in the north of Tenerife.

The park will have the second highest kamikaze water chuteever built.

Thrill seekers can always try the tornado ride or choose from a number of other ‘white knuckle’ installations.

Everything for the extreme adventure seeker.

For those who prefer something a little more sedate, there are river rides.

See all the amazing vegetation and animals.

There’s a lot more to it than this and it seems set to turn Tenerife’s south side into another choice for tourists.

A source at the government office says:

Quote, “It won’t only be foreigners enjoying this attraction. We’ve done surveys and local people are more than prepared to travel to enjoy this exceptional experience”.

Here’s an interesting piece I found in Cage and Aviary mag.
I don’t think I’ve ever known a bird that didn’t have their own individual quirks!

Editor’s letter (September 2 issue) – Cage & Aviary

One of the challenges of keeping birds must surely be their unpredictable nature. All birds have personalities, and while certain species might have common characteristics — for example birdsong and nesting habits — there will always be individuals who go against the grain or do completely unexpected things.

You only need to look at our letters page to see the proof of this. Last week Teri Wright told us about her Irish canary hen that imitated the telephone (“Sorry, it’s not the phone, it’s my canary!” August 26) and this week Alan Elmore tells us about his budgerigars that burrow underground (see Letter of the Week in this week’s issue).Turn further into the issue and you will see another reader, Dianna Pickersgill, tell us about 15 of her Bengalese finches all trying to cram into the one nest-box (Ask Cage & Aviary Birds, page 7).

Which begs the question: what weird or unusual behaviour have you seen your own birds get up to? Anything that made you laugh, cry or raise your eyebrows?

Please leave a comment, let me know about your oddball birds!
Or send us a picture or video, I will give a prize for the best “readers bird” each month

Bird Cage – How to Choose an Aviary Bird Cage

Bird cages, or aviary bird cages are as important to taking care of your pet bird or birds as their food and water. A bird needs a cage to come home to and to keep it safe. Different kinds of birds like different shapes and sizes of cages, so it is very important to choose a cage that is appropriate to your kind of bird.

Bigger birds will need bigger cages, and while a good rule of thumb is to always make sure that the cage is at the very least two times wider than the bird’s maximum wingspan, that is the minimum space requirement for a larger bird, and it is almost impossible to go too big. A big bird needs lots of room to fly or climb and you do not want to end up with a cage that is too small for your bird. This is not a place to save money and cut corners- your birds health is depending on you to choose a big enough cage. You should generally get the biggest cage you can afford for a bigger bird, and they will thank you for it.

For smaller birds, you can get a smaller cage, but remember that they will likely like to fly around, so make sure there is enough room in the cage to let them do so. It is possibly to get a cage that is too big for a smaller bird though, so your best bet is to ask a pet store employee or breeder- whoever you got your bird from, how much space he or she will need when full grown. Of course, keeping more than one bird in a aviary cage means that the cage will have to be big enough to fit them all comfortably.

Aviary bird cages are available in all sizes and shapes. You can find them made out of many different materials including wood, plastic, metal, and coated wire, which is the most common and usually the least expensive. However, you can also find specialty bird aviary cages if you know where to look and have a little more to spend. These can be more than just a place for your bird to perch in- they can be a jungle gym, a habitat, and even a piece of art.

For those who are looking to spend as little money as possible though, a good place to start would be to look for a bird cage at the local pet store. This will give you an idea of how bit it will need to be and you can see if you can get it into your room or not. Once you have seen the cage type you want in person, you can go on to the internet to look for websites that will sell you a aviary bird cage for less money than the brick and mortar store.

These websites usually have lower prices because they do not have to pay rent on a retail location, and often stock the same kind of things. Of course, you will have to pay shipping and wait for the cage to arrive at your house instead of walking home with it then and there. There are pros and cons to either approach and the choice is up to you.
